Whitby newspapers are online

Building on great things, Whitby Public library has launched its new Whitby Digital Newspaper Collection. The project was made possible by a generous anonymous donation. Containing 40 titles and 140 years of local news, the newspapers can be browsed and index records searched. Coming soon will be full text searching for the newspaper pages themselves! These papers are a genealogists’ delight, and a boon for anyone from or interested in the history of Whitby, Ontario.

World War II catalogue added to online site

More than 4000 clippings and photographs about World War II have been uploaded by the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library. The Lindsay Post launched the news. The new collection has been digitized, uploaded and made full text searchable on the City of Kawartha lakes PL’s VITA site http://vitacollections.ca/ckl-digitalcollection.

Multicultural oral histories shine new light on Canada’s past

The Multicultural History Society of Ontario is partnering with OurDigitalWorld and using the VITA Toolkit to provide free access to more than 100 hours of testimony in 23 languages and a collection of photographs representing more than 50 ethno-cultural communities.

OurDigitalWorld is a finalist for the EMC Heritage Trust Project grant–and your vote counts! ODW will use the grant to develop and enhance our existing beta news portals (http://ink.ourontario.ca and http://news2.ourontario.ca) so that we can streamline and increase access to one of the largest free collections of digitized newspaper pages and index records. Much of the news content is uploaded by VITA Toolkit subscribers!
