Where do I start?
Before you get started, spend some time with your collection and identify what formats do you have, how many items of each format, and if there are any special handling requirements.
Good digitization will reveal every bit of wear and this can compromise some results so when possible use negatives or slides instead of positive prints, for example, or see if you can find unused copies instead of public-use copies.
You’ll want to store the digital files for future use and preservation. Consider your organizational policies about preservation or write one! You might need TIFs or JPG or PDF master digital files. If you have text objects, do you need full text searchability? And finally, how do you need the items displayed?
